What is Cool Kids?
Cool Kids is a prevention-based anger management and conflict resolution programme designed for primary school students aged 5-11 years. The programme focuses on helping children identify and manage their emotions while developing problem-solving and self-regulation skills.
Programme Structure
The Cool Kids programme spans 4 to 6 weeks, during which students:
- Learn to identify anger and develop self-awareness.
- Understand how anger affects their bodies and recognize triggers.
- Evaluate their responses to anger and explore alternative solutions.
- Develop self-regulation skills and practice effective communication.
- Learn constructive problem-solving techniques to handle conflicts positively.
Why Cool Kids Matters
By equipping children with tools to manage anger, Cool Kids promotes emotional resilience and encourages positive behavior in schools and at home. The goal is to foster self-reliance and ensure that children have healthy alternatives to aggression or violence.
A Word from Our Programme Director
After meeting with primary school principals and having discussions with UNICEF, it became clear that this is the right time to try to grasp and shape the lives of children in their early or formative years in terms of how they cope with anger.
It’s important for Crime Stoppers Barbados to do this because we’re trying to show children there are alternatives to resorting to violence and derailing their lives.
